Also a list of expiring policy is attached. Love em? Not so much? Let me know. They will be debated at the December Pomona meeting. At the state level, the special legislative session has now accomplished it’s main objective. The Governors bill to fund road maintenance has passed. Governor is now delaying signing the bill to limit time for opponents to gather signatures to refer the bill to the voters as an initiative petition. Opponents hope that voters would reject the bill over it’s tax increases ( 6 cent raise in gas tax) in spite of the consequences for road maintenance. For comparison purposes Oregon’s gas tax in 1960 was 6 cents per gallon with average cost of gasoline in the state around 25 to 30 cents per gallon, a tax of between 25 and 31 percent. Current tax is 40 cents with gasoline costing around $4, a tax of about 11%. Also worth noting that average fuel economy has risen considerably from around 18 mpg to the mid twenties, with newer vehicles capable of over 40 mpg. Real spending on roads is down considerably from the good old days. AGRICULTURE – Hazelnut crop is in the bin and it is a big one. Yields set a record and prices are also up due to crop damage, mostly in Turkey. Profits on the nuts will go a fair way toward stemming Oregon Farmers’ losses this year. Dan attended a no kings rally in Newberg using a passage from the Grange introduction as a sign. Sign read: “What do we need? Faith, hope and charity with fidelity. NO KINGS”. Sign sparked several conversations about grange and at least one application for membership, unfortunately it was to Fernwood grange! DEAF AND BLIND - Roberta SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE – JoAnn COMMUNITY SERVICE – JoAnn COMMUNICATIONS – Betty Molalla Grange holding a potato bar dinner today from 3-7. POMONA REPORT - Pomona fun day went well. Excellent potluck dinner followed by fund raising auction (record pie went for $110!) in addition to board games, bingo and lots of friendly visiting. Regular Pomona meeting Oct 25 was productive if not dull. Cookie booth at county fair will go ahead for 2026, Frogpond grange in Wilsonville has been reorganized with several new members and will celebrate this coming Saturday, Convention turned a small profit in 2025 and is scheduled for Baker City in 2026, the traveling bear has been found (at Frogpond), one new Pomona member signed up and sworn in, another candidate forum will be held in 2026 for the general election and the potluck included the best blue berry pie I have ever tasted. Not only was the meeting productive, it was held in the dark. Power went down shortly after beginning the meeting. TREASURERS REPORT - Vicki BILLS – Dan Trash bags [email protected] 15.98 Total 15.98 UNFINSHED BUSINESS: Basement floor still needs touch up paint. Contractor is ignoring me. Bathroom floor cleaning needs done. Ball room benches have been worked on but not much progress getting them clean. Norma (Lady with cleaning business that parks in our lot weekdays) apologized for lack of progress and says she would pay for the cleaning by a contractor if we want her to. NEW BUSINESS: Resolution review Rural Organizing Project MEMBERS SICK OR IN DISTRESS: GOOD OF THE ORDER: NEXT MEETING CLOSING
