COMMUNICATIONS  (Betty Chipps, Secretary)
Dan  urged members to support Molalla Grange Potato Bar dinner and Game Night  today from 3-7pm - dinner donations received go to High School Scholarships.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
HALL REPORT  (Dan Keeley)
6 party rentals scheduled, two are gratis (Dec. Home school).  Chaps and Zumba still have long term contracts.

HALL PROJECTS - in priority order  (Dan Keeley)
Yard light
Couple of dining room benches getting wobbly
Bathroom exhaust fan??
- decided to purchase two-motion sensors deodorizers to subdue the bathroom scents.
Remove old meter base and patch roof
Insulate crawl space under bathrooms (1/2 done)
Northeast side roof needs additional screws
Kitchen counters need refinished
Kitchen needs exhaust hood and fan
Repainting needed under eves of hall

AGRICULTURE  (Dan Keeley) – Hazelnut crop is in the bin and it is a big one.  Yields set a record and prices are also up due to crop damage, mostly in Turkey.  Profits on the nuts will go a fair way toward stemming Oregon Farmers’ losses this year.

Dan attended a no kings rally in Newberg using a passage from the Grange introduction as a sign.  Sign read:  “What do we need?  Faith, hope and charity with fidelity.  NO KINGS”.  The sign sparked several conversations about grange and at least one application for membership, unfortunately it was to Fernwood grange!

COMMUNITY SERVICE (JoAnn Keeley) – At the next meeting (12/14) will be collecting clothing & warm items for Portland Rescue Mission donations.  Also will provide an email of current items needed for Veteran's Village.

DEAF and BLIND (Roberta Elders) – absent

EDUCATION (Dan Keeley) – None

LEGISLATIVE  (Dan Keeley) – Resolution time again!  Have a pet peeve or special cause?  Let's write at least one resolution to guide our lobbyist.  Also a list of expiring policies is attached.  Love em?  Not so much?  Let me know.  They will be debated at the December Pomona meeting.
At the state level, the special legislative session has now accomplished its main objective.  The Governor's bill to fund road maintenance has passed.  The governor is now delaying signing the bill to limit time for opponents to gather signatures to refer the bill to the voters as an initiative petition.  Opponents hope that voters would reject the bill over its tax increases ( 6 cent raise in gas tax) in spite of the consequences for road maintenance.

For comparison purposes Oregon’s gas tax in 1960 was 6 cents per gallon with average cost of gasoline in the state around 25 to 30 cents per gallon, a tax of between 25 and 31 percent.   Current tax is 40 cents with gasoline costing  around $4, a tax of about 11%.  Also worth noting that average fuel economy has risen considerably from around 18 mpg to the mid twenties, with newer vehicles capable of over 40 mpg.  Real spending on roads is down considerably from the good old days.

POMONA Report  (Dan Keeley) – Pomona fun day went well.  Excellent potluck dinner followed by a fund raising auction (record pie went for $110! to Don Sether),  in addition to board games, bingo and lots of friendly visiting.  Regular Pomona meeting Oct 25 was productive if not dull.  Cookie Booth at county fair will go ahead for 2026, Frogpond grange in Wilsonville has been reorganized with several new members and will celebrate this coming Saturday.  Convention turned a small profit in 2025 and is scheduled for Baker City in 2026, the ‘traveling bear’ has been found (at Frogpond), one new Pomona member signed up and sworn in, another candidate forum will be held in 2026 for the general election and the potluck included the best blueberry pie I have ever tasted.  Not only was the meeting productive, it was held in the dark.  Power went down shortly after beginning the meeting.

Dan will head the Cooke Booth in 2026 and would appreciate our volunteer support & sign-up.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE  (JoAnn Keeley) – None

TREASURER’S REPORT  (Vicki Pounds)  The Treasurer’s Report for the October 2025 Maplewood Grange meeting was emailed 10/23/2025.   .
The opening balance, as of 09/26/2025 was $11,357.54. and the ending balance on October 23, 2025 was $12,099.10.    Hearing no comments or corrections, the report shall be filed for audit.

Discussion:  Vicki could do an annual budget, however, rentals vary - projections not realistic.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS  (Dan Keeley)
Basement floor still needs touch up paint.  The contractor is ignoring me.

Bathroom floor cleaning needs done. Ball room benches have been worked on but not much progress getting them clean.   Norma (Lady with cleaning business that parks in our lot weekdays) apologized for lack of progress and said she would pay for a cleaning contractor if we want her to.
  • JoAnn suggests Stanley Steamer come out and thoroughly clean ballroom seating and benches, enabling JoAnn and the ladies to keep it maintained.
Suggestion met with approval to schedule Stanley Steamer.

NEW BUSINESS   (Dan Keeley):

BILLS presented toTreasurer – Reimbursements:   Dan Keeley:  Trash bags    (2 x $7.99)                                 15.98
