COMMITTEE REPORTS

Agriculture:
 1.  Dan reported that the Josephine County GMO ban has been struck down by the Oregon Court of Appeals as in conflict with the Oregon Seed Pr-emption law.
2.  Dan also reported on the North Willamette Valley Experiment Station.  The budget is looking up at the station with several vacancies filled and a very go get 'em director.  Station does work on Berries, Xmas trees, nursery stock, Vegetable seed crops and hazelnuts.  Dan and JoAnn attended their harvest gala fund raiser dinner last week, at Charbonneau, and found it excellent, featuring cheese and beer from the OSU food science students.
JoAnn reported they are testing a new variety of "sweet basil" for its mold resistence.

Legislative  (Dan Keeley):
1.  The Oregon legislature is considering joining a pollution prevention "market" currently run by California, Washington and British Columbia.  Program would allocate pollution permits and then charge fees for any extra pollution.  Large companies would be subject to the program initially.
2.  Also, Sen. Ron Wyden is holding a series of town hall meetings regarding condition of our forests and the causes of the bad fire season.  Comments are needed regarding how to get the forests thinned and healthy.

Education:  Dan reported Oregon Dept. of Agriculture is introducing 'Ag in the classroom' by pairing up kids with mentors/educators - great program.
Hall  (Dan Keeley):
1.  Ballroom:  One coat of oil was applied to a corner of the floor, beside the stage - near the chair closet.
Members checked it out:  found it looked OK and the glide of the foot was about the same on the test spot.
Floor needs scuff marks sanded out before proceeding with the initial coat.  Several coats will be needed over time.

2.  Rentals:  The Sept. 16th rental was a great BD party:  TV was 14' wide X 18' Tall and the Amplifier was outrageous - they cleaned up well also.  November 6th rental is Disabled Adult Outreach meeting, contact is:  Shangrila-or.org, a non-profit agency.
Lecturer (Sandy Shew):  no report
Legislative (Dan Keeley):  SB 181 (Non-profit organizations taxation and annual reporting requirements bill) - did NOT pass.  Dan circulated The Capitol Granger published by Grange Lobbyist:  Craig Loughridge - also available via the OSG website.
Membership (Betty Chipps):
1.  2017 Membership renewal check (included $10 donation) from Adin Hester was presented to Treasurer.
2.  Katie Gonzales email address is:  [email protected]

Project involves taking off old siding and placing insulation and hardy-plank (painted) siding; equipment includes truck (to haul off old siding) and lift-equipment provided by Ken Sether.
Project to be accomplished in August - time involves:  one day - rip off old siding, second-day to lay insulation and third-day to paint siding (on the ground) and use lift to nail the hardy-plank.
To beautify the exterior:  a future project might be to trim the windows in a different color.
